Changes in the T-Gauge Landscape

"Due to circumstances beyond our control.." the main forum for T-gauge modelers, "Talking T Gauge," which has been hosted by David  K. Smith has been taken down.  This was the place for news and updates from other T-Gaugers around the world.  The forum recently took on a life of it's own with some (in my opinion) immature behavior being displayed by users, but this is not the reason for the forum being shut down.  In any case, after checking with DKS, it appears to be a permanent loss--or at least semi-permanent.  This is sad but comes with the territory.  T-gauge is not a huge commercial market, and there are only a few of us carrying the torch.  I'm debating whether to start a new forum, and if there is another "home" for T-gauge please spread the word.

  1. It's such a shame that the immature attitudes of some have lead to this. I'm lead to believe from Dkightly that he has spoken with David and is in the process of taking over the running of the forum. May be a long process though...

  2. Matt, that's certainly good news! In the meantime, we'll have to keep up via the "blogosphere."

  3. Hello, I was involved in the forum as a daily user...it was extremely hard being away. I just love the passion of people modeling and showing it to the world. Without that forum, everything is pretty much dead. You won't have anything motivating to keep you going, most of the time you would just quit. David should move the ownership to someone else instead of taking it down with him.

  4. DKS did a great job and I totally understand where he's coming from. I'm also relieved to hear a glimmer of hope for the T-Gauge community; the forums were a daily read and are sorely missed.

  5. By the way, I am wondering if we or someone can create a new "home". Many of us users are getting lost. I'm just getting worried that the market gotten smaller when the forum shut down. In my opinion...this is worse than the government shutdown.

  6. I was hoping this was just a temporary glitch, but alas it seems not. And just as I was really getting started in T gauge.
There is a T gauge section on the rmweb forum (www.rmweb.co.uk), although it does not seem to be receiving too many posts at the moment. I have just added a thread about my PWM controller.

  9. Hey guys, an occasional visitor to David's site, some of you may remember me, I was known PKP_EN57.

I was HIGHLY surprised when I logged in about an hour ago and read he will no longer be updating the site, and that the forum was gone. Was also disappointed in what I read in the blog, as I remember the member he said caused the most issues on was a real decent guy from what I remember. can only imagine that the younger visitor mentioned at DKS's blog came out from the diecast airliner hobby. Wings 900 and DA.C tend to have that issue from time to time (in fact, we had that issue back in October and November), as well, and in the end it often turns out well and everyone is happy. Hopefully we can get the new site back up, or at least keep good life on the facebook group. I can't wait to start work again on my layout, and eventually share it with you guys! Hopefully some old faces from the old site too will be out there!
